How do you know if your website is up and running or if it is just your computer or connection? There is an easy way to know. First, if you can get to Google then run a speed test at this web address: https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/

Enter your web address. You do not need http or www. If we were putting ours in it would just be lubyg.com.

Anything above 50 means your website is fine. It all depends if you are running an html site or a database driven site. Database sites return lower results. There are things you can do to speed up your site but that is not the subject of this post.

Many times there are connectivity issues with the web. They often do not have anything to do with your website. For example, if you are on Comcast you may not see your site due to issues with Comcast. It can be local or Comcast wide. You may see your site on another provider like Verizon but not on your Cable Modem provider.

There are many connections on the web that can go wrong. After being on the web since the early days of black blinky screens I am surprised how it works 99% of the time. If you cannot get to Google then the whole internet may be down. If you can see some sites and not others it is likely your ISP

Yahoo is the most often hacked free email system based on hacked emails we receive. Hotmail, Gmail, AOL and All others can be hacked easily if you are using an insecure password. The https:// in front means absolutely nothing. The thing that secures your email is a strong password.

One of the easiest way to create a secure password is to use an old phone number like (212)VI6-3124 as it contains letters, numbers and symbols. You can use dots, dashes between the number sets or parenthesis around the area code. Don’t use your current phone number as someone could guess that.

We used letters in our phone numbers back in the day. You may be too young to recall something like this. If that is the case use one of your common passwords and add some symbols and a 4 digit pin number that you can remember plus upper and lower case letters. You can also swap out letters for symbols. I had a friend that used something like R@dio1420 where the letter a is replaced with @.

It seems today everyone claims to be a web master, web designer or web developer. There are many reasons to use a professional company versus your “uncle’s neighbors son”.

We recently took over a project from a young “web designer”. He put the client in a WordPress system. We were contacted to re-design the website and help with Search Engine Optimization. The first thing I noticed was a check box that was ticked telling search engines to NOT index the website. It had been this way for 3 years!

There is a little feature inside WordPress that has moved in recent updates that indicates to the Google Bot and others to “go away.” This is usually helpful during development stages when you don’t want people looking at an incomplete website. This is just the most recent reason I came up with to “Use a Pro.”

It is also true that many “professional” developers are not what they appear to be. You need to do your homework and ask some questions. For example:

1. How many websites have you or your company developed?

2. Do you know the difference between Search Engine Optimization and Search Engine Marketing?

3. Can you show me some examples of your work?

4. Do you have references or testimonials?

5. Do you provide Mobile Compliant systems?

6. Can you integrate my Social Media?

7. Can my website include a blog?

Here at LubyG we have done hundreds of websites. We can offer everything from “do it yourself” systems to professionally managed systems and all stages in between. One size does not fit all. Your company needs are as unique as your business. We understand that and work with you based on your needs. We will ask the right questions about your goals and offer solutions that fit your budget. That is our promise, to treat you like an individual!

Would you like to build a list of people that want to receive text messages? Do you have a group or organization that needs to be notified of meetings and important messages via text? The solution is here.

Everyone is not always by their email but they are almost always by their cell phones. Some perfect ideas are:

Text out school closings and delays to subscribers, parents, students, teachers etc.

Text out meeting reminders.

Text out Happy Hour or other specials for bars and restaurants.

Text out emergency information like evacuations, road closings, delays etc.

The list goes on and on. Click Here for pricing information. Just mention “Text Messaging” on the subject block or content area. We will walk you through how your system works over the phone. Enter your phone number to see how the confirmation system works. Unsubscribe your phone to see how easy it is to opt out after signing up.

We design websites, business cards, brochures, rack cards, restaurant menus, mailers, create logos & all your design needs including billboards. Using one company to create all your brand identity needs keeps you looking consistent in all arenas.

LubyG stands for Let Us Be Your Guide and is the new central website for PAontheweb LLC. We now operate in 8 states and several smaller local areas within those 8 states. You may be directed here for a number of different directories including PA, NY, DE, MD, NC, FL, TX, HI and our Outer Banks NC, Virginia Beach VA and Wildwood / Cape May NJ sites.

We are a site dedicated to providing businesses a powerful way to be found on the web. Through our directory systems we are able to help optimize your website so it can be found for what you do and where you are located. After all, 99% of all business is local, not global.

We also provide all kinds of internet technology and print design. For example, is your website Mobile Compliant? We can develop one website that is effective for personal computers and mobile devices. Our systems automatically detect when a mobile device is visiting your web site and converts it to an easy to read mobile view. Mobile users are up significantly in 2010 and the trend will only continue to grow over the next several years.

If you have seen it done on the web we can do it!
